About Us
What is the NWPAC?
The Northwest Redevelopment Project Area Committee (NWPAC) is a 21 member Committee, whose purpose is to advise the City of San Bernardino Mayor and Common Council about projects within the Northwest Project Area (generally the boundaries of the 6th Ward). It is the only Advisory Committee in the City of San Bernardino that is elected by the people and currently the only one active.
Why a NWPAC?
Since the early 1940’s, Redevelopment, sometimes called Urban Renewal, have destroyed minority and poor neighborhoods across the country. The Project Area Committee is here to prevent this from happening in our neighborhood.
The NWPAC also makes it easier for residents to get information about Redevelopment Agency projects and other City Projects in the Sixth Ward. Guest speakers bring information about the Fire Department, the Police Department and other City operations to our Regularly Scheduled meetings. Our meetings are held the Second Monday of the month around 7 pm.
What Can We Do For the Community?
Help the NWPAC make recommendations to the Mayor and the City Council members. The PAC advises on redevelopment projects in the Sixth Ward and also provides comments to the City on other development projects and proposals.
Crime - Work with the community and police to identify and clean up crime and drug hotspots in the Sixth Ward.
Promote - Community workshops on crime prevention and neighborhood watch.
Employment - Work with the City to ensure that equal employment opportunities created by Redevelopment activities are made available to local residents.
Advocate - Grant proposals that benefit the general welfare of the Sixth Ward.
Housing - Promote quality housing for homeowners and tenants. Promote quality, affordable senior citizen housing. Work to rehabilitate and market abandoned housing. Engage the development and equal distribution of low income housing projects through out the city.
Improve City
Services – By promoting completion and improvement of exciting parks and
recreation facilities. Also by promoting underground utilities on major streets,
ward-wide clean ups, weed abatement and removal of junk cars.
